Here's how it works.
Humans know about dry bulb temperatures, so that means that the humidity in the air is relatively low, but it might still get warm. (Usually in the summer).
The good thing about a low humidity is that the body still has a good opportunity to start sweating and take the heat out of the body, even though, with 40°C that may not feel like it.
But, as climate change accelerates, so does the humidity in the air.
And with higher humidity, the temperatures increase a little as well.
In the below chart, you can see in the red zones where it becomes more difficult for humans to operate normally.
This is because the body will have problems releasing the sweat, thus your body starts heating up and in the more severe cases, you just die from being cooked alive.
This can already become a problem with a little as 28 °C and a high humidity.
Imagine the following scenarios.
Dry bulb (low humidity) it's warm outside, but the wind gives a nice gentle cooling breeze.
Wet bulb (high humidity) is warm outside, but due to the high humidity, the wind increases the temperature like an Aufguss in a sauna.
Except, the sauna you can leave if you had enough.
This may sound like a distant future, but it's already happening around the world and its going to become increasingly frequent.”
