Wood shipped to the UK is also done in the form of pellets for burning to make electricity.
In BC those pellets are manufactured by the “evil” entity Drax which slimed into BC several years ago.
Their smoke and mirrors approach of hiding entire primary forests (pellets) in train tanker cars and then pumping them into bulk cargo ships is less obvious than the huge raw log ships that are piled high with carcasses.
Drax has been exposed by several documentaries including the Fifth Estate. Although they haven’t been stopped yet I know they had their “Green certification” downgraded.
Biomass has been pushed by industry as a Green alternative to coal burning.
Burning biomass actually releases more carbon into the atmosphere than burning coal does. Biomass is the fancy code word for wood.
You have to cut down forests to get wood. Forests make oxygen and help control climate change. Forests actually make rain and hold soil together to prevent erosion and watershed damage.
Soil erosion clogs streams, creeks and rivers with silt that destroys fish habitat. Less salmon spawning affects not only salmon populations but also bears that depend on returning salmon for their food supply before hibernation.
A goddamn 5 year old child could figure this shit out but industry tries to distract us with job creation and other nonsense and government stands idly by and says:

I’m shocked at the illogical use of mass spraying of glyphosate (Roundup) a toxic herbicide, on our forest lands to “kill” deciduous trees and shrubs because forestry says they interfere with their conifer production. “Tree farming” needs to be made illegal in BC.
We are not a natural environment anymore. We’ve been corrupted and turned into a lumber production facility, where bears and salmon and birch trees are seen as an inconvenience to the acquisition of profit.
This insanity must end. I’ve talked about forestry workers needing jobs many times. I drove truck in the industry for a decade. I understand what’s going on. I’ve seen a lot. Forestry workers need jobs, but British Columbians need forests for their survival.
A British Columbian is not just a human. A grizzly bear emerging from hibernation looking for food “lives” in what was once Beautiful British Columbia. That grizzly is a citizen of this province. He just can’t tell you how pissed off he is. But I know who he’d vote for.”
