Price increases due to climate driven scarcity (eg supply disruptions from roads being obliterated by floods and agricultural goods simply not existing in sufficient quantity due to droughts and excessive heat (that btw will add costs to producing what goods do make it to market)) and greed driven inflation didn’t really stem from consumers having to much cash.
What’s more, energy (gasoline and electricity) prices are a function of many things that won’t give a rat’s ass if consumers will have trouble affording them and because they are effectively a necessity - electricity during a heat wave and needing to commute work to get a pay check. Also, the price of gas effects the price of all other goods.
Nevertheless raising interest rates will diminish consumers ability to pay for any and everything. Including goods they have to have to survive like food, healthcare, and gasoline. If a good a necessity consumers will have to pay for it whatever the price and those seller will know it when the set the price regardless of how much Powell had reduced their ability to pay.
