*consumer spending is on credit card. Today’s consumer spending is a sign of consumer sentiment. aka a measure of how well washington is bullshitting people who don’t have the cash to spend on what they want
*huge layoffs when unemployment appears low means employment has grown more tenuous;
*privatization creates jobs by counting govt jobs as private sector job growth (eg postal service)
*housing is a big source of aggregate demand and if not healthy can negate a whole lot of allegedly good economic signs. Interest rates are high.
*speaking of key prosperity determinants there is NO way with whatever is going on in the economy are special interests going to let their washington allow labor to get stronger - big biz wants 5 to 6 people unemployed for every job available
* record, obscene levels of today’s concentration of wealth is as indicator of unrealized economic potential - period. the fact that on top of this washington is engaging in war profiteering is depraved. It also reflects the fact that washington is conducting its affairs in an fashion that does not use the country’s resources to the benefit of all Americans. You can have positive growth in the presence of severely concentrated wealth. The benefits of the growth are going to the rich (private wealth bubble). You just print more money to gloss over the fact that the proverbial‘Scrooge McDuck’ is sitting on a bigger pile of cash
