““Such (extreme) droughts are responsible for the collapse of historic civilizations such as the Mayas or the Ming Dynasty,” Prein added."
They recently declared Lake Mead to be in emergency situation, power generation off, mid summer !.
40 million people need the water that used to come from behind the Hoover Dam.
I wonder what effect the low lake levels are having on the 75 yr old concrete dam structure. Without the cooling effect of the water the concrete will be experiencing temperature, hence expansion levels it has never been exposed to before.
Fascinating experiments we conduct !!!”

“Defense contractors spent big in Afghanistan before the U.S. left and the Taliban took control”
“In the months leading up to the U.S. ending its 20-year war in Afghanistan and the Taliban gaining control of the country, major defense companies were awarded contracts in Afghanistan worth hundreds of millions of dollars and spent tens of millions lobbying the federal government on defense issues.
The Department of Defense issued nearly $1 billion dollars in contracts to 17 companies related to work in Afghanistan that was set to continue past the May 1 withdrawal date.
It’s unclear what will happen with some of those contracts as the U.S. evacuates operations in Afghanistan.”

“(W) "The Russian security services have now studied us and worked out (it probably wasn’t very hard) that large numbers of Americans—not only Fox News pundits and OANN broadcasters but also members of Congress—are very happy to accept sensational information, however tainted, from any source that happens to provide it. As long as it suits their partisan frames, and as long as it can be used against their opponents, they don’t care who invented it or for what purpose." “The Gassing Of Satartia
A CO2 pipeline in Mississippi ruptured last year, sickening dozens of people. What does it forecast for the massive proposed buildout of pipelines across the U.S.?”
“It was just after 7 p.m. when residents of Satartia, Mississippi, started smelling rotten eggs. Then a greenish cloud rolled across Route 433 and settled into the valley surrounding the little town. Within minutes, people were inside the cloud, gasping for air, nauseated and dazed.”

Beware fast and loose calculations by fossil fuel advocates?:
“Northward
Logically, if we make the same calculations for a solar insolation of 900kWh/m2 (the yearly average in Wester Europe and in the Northeast and Northwest USA), the results worse. In the worst case scenario (US grid, mono-crystalline silicon), emissions rise to 104 gram CO2 per kilowatt-hour of solar generated electricity, which makes solar panels only 4 times cleaner than gas. Now let’s play a bit with the life expectancy.
If we combine this lower solar insolation with an expected lifetime of ony15 years, the worst case scenario becomes 207 grams of CO2 per kilowatt-hour – just 2 times better than gas.
Agreed, this is the worst case scenario, and even in that case solar panels are still a better choice than fossil fuels. But it becomes quite hard to describe them as a “clean” source of fuel.
