Andrea Corigliano:
“VIOLENT STORMS: THE ATMOSPHERE EXHAUST VALVE TO RELEASE ENERGY.
There are images that speak for themselves and tell us very clearly how the atmosphere tends to behave when it accumulates a large amount of energy in the form of very high temperatures. For weather dynamics, in fact, “hot” means “fuel”, that is, the gasoline that can be used to form storm clouds if there is a fuse ready to ignite the process. This fuse is the instability of the tropospheric column, a situation that occurs when fresher air interacts with hot air and therefore prepares optimal conditions for that energy to be converted into clouds, hail you also significant and furious wind gusts.
Today, Friday, May 20, this evolution of extreme type has particularly affected France and Germany, where together more than 400,000 lightning strikes have fallen. These areas were in fact located on the border between the warning of subtropical air (red arrow) that brought maximum temperatures up to 38-41 °C over southern Spain and the freshest and most unstable currents of Atlantic origin (blue arrow) c they have instead brought maximum temperatures up to 15-17 °C on the British Isles. In that narrow strip of earth the atmosphere sought balance between two diametrically opposite thermal situations, about twenty degrees apart between them.”

Food: they aren’t making it anymore:
“Contagious Collapse”
“(Many people assume that the food crisis was caused by a combination of the pandemic and the invasion of Ukraine. While these are important factors, they aggravate an underlying problem. For years, it looked as if hunger was heading for extinction. The number of undernourished people fell from 811 million in 2005 to 607 million in 2014. But in 2015, the trend began to turn. Hunger has been rising ever since: to 650 million in 2019, and back to 811 million in 2020. This year is likely to be much worse.
Now brace yourself for the really bad news.)”

Mark Trewick:
“Peter's Kalmus is a climate scientist and as such, he's obviously an educated fella, but he's not particularly keen to explain three crucial points about our predicament that he and we need to be mindful of.
1. The 10-40 year delay of the effects of CO2 levels in the atmosphere on global temperatures and their consequences.
2. The Aerosol Masking Effect. Whereby the 'soot' in the atmosphere is masking 55% of the Sun's heat from reaching the surface. If we end fossil fuels overnight, we're toasted within weeks.
3. The imminence of an ice free Arctic ocean and the consequent rapid loss of albedo (ice reflectance).
I picked these three because they're probably the main ones but there's dozens more and the list grows longer every day....
Tick tock...”

“Parts of Spain are experiencing their hottest May ever with temperatures of more than 40C in some places, according to the state weather agency, AEMET.)
These are likely to be beaten again next May and every year thereafter. At 40°C (104°F), plants start to lose the ability to photosynthesise.
