We are already locked into losing 25% of all plant and animal species.
2011 Good AAAA IMG_3490aaaap
30% by 2030 on an world that is dying in its entirety, is like saying we’ll intern the body leaving the left leg hanging out of the casket so at least it can thrive.
Seriously though, problems and pitfalls with the COP15 Biodiversity Summit’s Percentage Set aside arrangement to preserve biodiversity (and hopefully avoid many future COVID like viruses) include:
~What gets set aside may not be the habitat required
~Lands to be set aside will probably be dominated by those lands that are the least commercially valuable which isn’t the same as land most productive to save biodiversity
~Uncooperative State and local governments will frustrate progress and objectives and may very well prove deadly anyway
~The United States refused to be a part of it, and
~Whatever the amount of percentage set aside it is still on a dying planet. If the whole is dying then so is it’s parts
~Oceans?
~we are already locked into losing 25% of all plant and animal species
~the coming extinction of wild pollinators will decimate organized society and international agreements will become irrelevant in the face of raw survival
Remember nothing is sacred in the quest for profit:
“Outlook 'Grim' Halfway Through Global Biodiversity Summit, Climate Groups Warn
"If Global North countries don't compromise, the consequences will be dire," said Greenpeace. "One million species are at risk of extinction, threatening the web of life that holds our planet together."”
Charge the international community of Big Oil for the full cost:
“After developing country walkout, ministers arrive to rescue nature talks”
“Tensions are running high at the Cop15 biodiversity summit over a finance gap estimated at $700 billion per year”
Here is a telling example of the angle a failure to recognize the part not being from the whole may come from - politics.
The Environmental Defense Fund and EarthJustice both Environmental Organizations are propagandizing for the administration.
The Environmental Defense Fund is more than willing to ignore the fact that 85% of new GHG emissions are coming from planetary feedback mechanisms (that mankind really doesn’t have any control over) for the purposes of propaganda. Get a load of this:
From Environmental Defense Fund’s farcebook page:
“A huge win! Nearly 200 countries have agreed to sweeping measures to protect biodiversity at #COP15. The deal includes placing 30% of land and sea under protection by 2030. “This is a scale of conservation that we haven’t seen ever attempted before.”” [in America that is NOT saying much at all!]
“Nearly Every Country Signs On to a Sweeping Deal to Protect Nature
Roughly 190 nations, aiming to halt a dangerous decline in biodiversity, agreed to preserve 30 percent of the planet’s land and seas. The United States is not officially a participant.”
And EarthJustice get’s in on the action to:
“Biggest investment in history” again isn’t saying much when progress to date has been little next to nil. Such statements do NOT say anything about the adequacy and sufficiency of the investment (and that includes timing and funding).
UNDERSTAND THIS A CLEAR SIGN OF AMERICAN GOVERNMENT GROWING INCREASINGLY DESPERATE WITH THE WORSENING CONSEQUENCES OF THEIR HAVING KILLED THE PLANET.
THIS DESPERATE PROPAGANDA TOGETHER WITH RECENT SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE SHOULD HAVE YOU VERY CONCERNED. THERE WILL BE NO NORMALIZING THE DEATH OF OUR PLANET AS JUST BUSINESS AS USUAL.
Again,
“Biggest” to date doesn’t mean much when you effectively have done nothing to date!!. Big Oil’s Inflation Reduction Act is a COMPLETE FAIL when it comes to adequacy and sufficiency (including timing). What’s more, feedback?! 85% of new GHG emissions are coming from the planet - not man made and for that matter effectively outside of man’s control. Especially, if America continues promoting Big Oil like in the Inflation Reduction Act. Remind me to NEVER donate to Earthjustice. I mean really WTF?! Is Tex tillerson their ceo? Any good deeds by earth justice dies NOT give them a free pass when they fawn over neoliberal political crap
“2023 is approaching, which means the largest climate bill to ever become a law is going to start showing some real impacts.
The investments in the Inflation Reduction Act give us the opportunity to do what the fossil fuels industry never did. We can build out the clean energy infrastructure of the future while also installing guardrails to protect the places and communities most impacted by development. But to do so, we need to work together to hold the Biden administration accountable.”
“The Inflation Reduction Act is the Biggest Climate Investment in History. The Fight Doesn’t Stop Here.” Or the same image is used for “What you need to know about the unstoppable rise of electric truck fleets” (meaning you really need to know it is not going to have a measurable effect on the forthcoming death and destruction by catastrophic global warming)
Thanks Charles Koch:
“Model shows extinction cascades caused by land use and climate change will wipe out more than 25% of world biodiversity”
Quote: “…cascading extinctions are unavoidable, and that the Earth will lose some 10% of its animals and plants by 2050”
