Their “Hydrogen Fusion” is Nuclear Energy Industry Propaganda. Our desperation has made research into energy alternatives news worthy. This one is patently bologna.
Their “hydrogen fusion” represents a new way to contain what is essentially a hydrogen bomb explosion to take advantage of the resulting heat. A scheme that should sound familiar. Using lasers to do it isn’t a new idea, while getting it to work the way you want it to may be. We are getting a glimpse into somebody’s Research and Development department. You can bet that’s a for profit R&D Dept.
The Chinese have have been doing it with the “z pinch” method since September. Our way smells a lot like America’s 5G. (America steals what it needs to get rich, China has legitimate schools.)
Maybe in 20 to 40 years from now the rich will be able to power their bunkers with some off shoot version of what they advertise today as “hydrogen fusion” but for now our desperation makes it news hopium. If you’d like I’m sure the Biden administration could have similarly sensationalized research into cancer on GMA.
Household Fusion energy has always been, and today continues to be, something that is a ways off.
Today’s news does nothing to prevent the deaths and extinctions from the global heating that are already locked in and currently taking place.

The nuclear fusion scientists are bald faced lying about "breaking even". There is a big difference between "Q Plasma", and "Q Total". They are quoting Q Plasma which is the ratio of the energy that resulted from the reaction, vs the energy that actually impinged upon the fuel. I have seen varying statistics reported but the result was somewhat higher than 1 at about 1-3 MegaJoules for this laser shot. But the laser process is so inefficient that it takes 400 MJ and several hours to charge them before each firing. So this is still a 100:1 loss. Even the ITER Tokamak is scientifically forecast to to make a Q Total of only 1, and then lose 60% of that in producing steam for the actual electrical turbine generators. But the scientists repeatedly stand in front of world leaders stating the Q Plasma number which is forecast as 10. There is a big issue with Tritium supply which only comes as a waste product in CANDU reactors. And also neutronic damage to the steel heat collectors in the very innermost core which must be torn down and replaced several times per year.”
